Assess Needs

Communicating Results

The completion of the needs assessment process is a great time to remind, educate, and invigorate stakeholders about the city’s service initiative.

  1. Write a press release and distribute it widely to news outlets as well as to all of the community organizations, public agencies, businesses, colleges, universities, and other groups that have participated in the process.
  2. Ask these groups to publish the information in their newsletters and on their websites.
  3. Communicate the final results of the needs assessment and priorities through all of the same channels used so far in this process.

Some of the best techniques for communicating these results are:

  • An announcement on the city’s website or blog
  • Memos, newsletter blurbs, updates on relevant blogs, e-mail alerts via message blasts, LISTSERVs, and text messages
  • Updates on social networking sites, such as The Service Connection, CollectiveX, Facebook, Twitter, and Meetup
  • Media announcements via newspaper and magazine articles, television reports, and radio spots

Additional techniques for reaching citizens may be found in the Citizen Participation section. Don’t forget to provide information about how groups can get involved in the asset mapping phase of the process.
